Lori Holt Farm Girl Vintage Block of the Month

Make a decorative pillow that has interchangeable blocks so it can be used throughout the entire year! We will be using patterns from the Farm Girl Vintage book by Lori Holt.

*You can also take this class to make the blocks to make an entire quilt, a table runner, or join for one day to make one pillow. You can choose home many classes you would like to join.

This class is for students who have some prior sewing experience and who are familiar and comfortable operating their sewing machine. This class is appropriate for participants who have skill levels of very confident beginners or intermediate and above.

During the first class, students will create the pillow cover.  Kristi will review cutting techniques and tips for success in using Lori Holt patterns.  In subsequent classes we will work on one of the interchangeable blocks that will attach to the front of the pillow. The goal is to have a block that is completely pieced and quilted by the end of each class.

You will need:

Sewing machine and general sewing supplies

Farm Girl Vintage book by Lori Holt

A fat quarter bundle (for the sample blocks, I used 31 different colors and 6 background colors)

1 ⅜  yards of fabric to use as lining for the quilt blocks

1 yard of 1” wide velcro

One 18” zipper

Six, 15 ½” x 15 ½” squares of thin batting for the quilt blocks

Frixion Pen or Diagonal seam tape (Cluck Cluck Sew Company)

6”x12” ruler, or something similar such as a 3 ½” x 12 ½” Creative Grids ruler

Rotary cutter and mat

Pins and/or clips

To make the pillow form you will need:

Two 18 ½” squares of white fabric or muslin

And  four 18” squares of puffy polyester batting

Very helpful to have, but not essential:

  Post-it Notes

Seam roller

Tailor’s clapper

12” or larger Design Board

Alpha-Bitties (by It’s Sew Emma)

Stiletto

I used a ¼” foot, zipper foot, a flange foot for stitching in the ditch, and a free motion quilting foot to make this project.
